Molecular conductive wire for a computer

A computer build from plastics, is that possible? Yes. Chemical engineer Maarten van den Boogaard did his PhD at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen on: isolated molecular conductive wire.

This type of wire can serve as a connection for part of a plastic computer. As building blocks for his molecular tube with isolation properties Van den Boogaard used so called cyclodextrines strained as polymer chains. Conductivity through such a tube is done by a polymer. The engineer also designed a second type of molecular wire with a different structure. Very stable and soluble in water.

Maarten van den Boogaard studied chemistry in Groningen the Netherlands. And did his doctors at the chemistry department for Polymers which is part of the Materials Science Center at the RUG.
